Sell In May & Go Away Cliché Strikes Again

Last month, we recorded the Bull vs. Bear episode, “Sell In May and Go Away?” In this episode, we discussed the seasonality of crypto markets, as well as traditional markets, specifically as it pertains to the classic finance cliché. This episode was recorded on April 19th, and a short segment can be found below.

Now that May 2023 has come to a close, we can revisit markets and see just how things are tracking the old cliché.

So far, the S&P 500 has barely changed, moving less than half of a percentage point from the start of the month.

BTC has done much worse than its equity market counterparts, dropping nearly 7% over the same 1 month timeframe.

As of now, the seasonality of the “sell in may & go away” mantra has tracked historical data quite nicely and it should come as no surprise that we are seeing meager asset performance and low volatility environments as we head into the doldrums of summer.
