I wonder how DAOs fit into this framing. If a token gives you governance rights (e.g. to vote on treasury allocations or protocol upgrades), does that evolving lifecycle include shifts in participant responsibility?

Are tokenholders just passive speculators early on, but gradually become more like insiders as a DAO matures? And if so, does that shift their legal or regulatory standing over time? Could the SEC interpret that as evidence of a security?

I mean yes, i think they can (e.g. Derive was built with the OP-stack and it's using Celestia). The OP Stack is a public good, so technically anyone can use it.

What’s less clear is whether Optimism has strings attached for grant recipients (BASE, Ink, Unichain) like a requirement to post DA to Ethereum, and i suspect they do. Otherwise, why give out grants if chains can just opt out of the Superchain’s shared DA layer? Without that incentive alignment, the whole interop vision gets diluted.

EigenDA is just fake DA: It doesn’t have consensus, it doesn’t have slashing, and it relies entirely on trusting EigenLayer operators to act honestly. That’s the opposite of Celestia, where DA is secured by a native valset with direct economic security via $TIA staking.

So what exactly are rollups trusting? A vague social layer?
Haven’t looked deep into the $EIGEN token or business model, but from first principles it’s structurally worse than $TIA: No staking requirement to secure the network, no mandatory hold, fees go to AVS operators, not tokenholders, and I think customers (rollups) just pay for DA with ETH, while Celestia rollup usage are tied to TIA-denominated DA costs.

Meanwhile, $TIA has actual demand sinks and future potential:

• DA fees paid in TIA

• Native staking and slashing (i.e. better and true economic security)

And also has more potential use-cases that EIGEN lacks: you can build a range of products on top of Celestia L1 and tied them to TIA: based rollups, lazybridging, an execution layer to post proofs.

So, even if EigenDA wins DA market share (e.g. via MegaETH), it’s unclear to me how EIGEN captures value. Best-case, it’s a meta-governance token for intersubjective faults, which, honestly, still feels like vapor.

If you think TIA is a weak trade, then EIGEN shouldn't even be on your radar. From a tokenholder perspective, it’s structurally weaker in every meaningful way.

I understand the feeling. It's a direct consequence of the times we're living in. I used to be an eager reader of books; nowadays, I find it hard to concentrate and finish 10 pages without having to check my phone.

When I started my journey in crypto, I used to take notes in my paper notebook. I really enjoyed it, as it gave me time to process the information I was learning and internalize it. At some point, I stopped doing that and started taking notes on Google Docs or Notion

I'm starting to sound like my old man, but every now and then I feel that things were better in the past, I don't like that we don't own anything no more:

• No music, we just pay a suscription to listen it in Spotify or youtube+. Same with movies and tv shows.

• No books, all stored on e-readers. That's why I never bought a kindle, I like to collect and own things, and still love the experience of going to a library and getting lost choosing what to read next.

• No photos, all our memories are kept in the cloud and we don't give the value they used to have, as we have our phone and can take as many photos as we want.

• We don't even own our own notes jfc, as they’re all in the cloud too. We interact daily with more people online than in the real world, and that's just sad.

Maybe physical books and taking notes on paper are the last bastions of the analog era.

Not saying we should go full caveman mode, but I realized this, and I decided to take concrete action to keep an equilibrium. I deleted instagram, put my phone in airplane mode while I'm at home, among other things. I just don't like to live the moment through screens, I feel like I need a digital detox.

Apologies for the (not so) long post as it's not 100% related to crypto, but I just felt that every once in a while, it's good to take a step back, reflect on where we are, how we feel, and take concrete actions on things we're not entirely happy about.

I think we will see preconfs on mainnet in about ~6 months or so, some of them are already on testnet and posting results like mev-commit or Gattaca

Taiko (the only based rollup in production currently) is also working with Nethermind into a PoC demo to offer preconfs within their design, because as of today they are just submitting blobs to post L2 blocks and they don't have preconfs.

Main things that need to be addressed before hitting mainnet i think are solving the 'fair exchange' problem, how to enforce slashing and how to include other commitment types (namely tx execution) rather than just transaction inclusion.

I recommend following the Ethereum Sequencing and Preconfirmations calls, they are hosted weekly on friday with updates and presentations from teams building around preconfs.
