This comes a few weeks after Solflare added private transfers using Houdini.
Crypto payments are public by default, while privacy in crypto has always been fragmented.

Houdini swap has been around for a few years and currently has been doing around $20m volume per week before the Solflare and Jupiter integrations. It’s mostly been used as a cross chain private router.
Houdini Swap isn’t true privacy, it’s “compliant privacy”, which seems to be the default “privacy solution” a lot of projects are taking. It works by routing trades through it’s partner network. Crucially, the ability to deanonymize or respond to law enforcement requests is always there, that’s why they call it “bank level privacy”.
The Jupiter and Solflare integrations are an interesting catalyst for them. The jupiter one could theoretically add a ton of volume. The other main aggregator on Solana, Titan Exchange, uses Vanish trade as their private aggregator. Vanish is similar in that it is “compliant privacy” and rejects illicit actors.
Houdini used to have a staking program but now uses 50% of fees to burn LOCK and 50% for marketing. To date they’ve burned 19.5% of supply.
It’s an interesting project with a real use case, fundamentals, real value accrual and recent catalysts that are worth monitoring. Main drawback for the token is that it’s only on DEX’s and the liquidity is very thin which reduces the potential investor class. We’ve also seen tokens with strong fundamentals and buybacks trade poorly over the years with low multiples. Houdini will need to cement itself as the preferred platform with lock-in as there is no reason Solflare and Jupiter can’t move to Vanish or another private solution if Houdini isn’t working out.
